Fixing boot loader?Forum: HD Install Topic: Fixing boot loader? started by: Kaiousama Posted by Kaiousama on April 09 2006,05:36
Well, I have the wonderful boot screen filled with A9's, and the wiki has a link to a boot iso of grub, but the site doesn't have it anymore.I'm trying to find a boot iso so I can get GRUB and restore my boot loader, but I have a question. I removed DSL entirely, so I could start trying again freshly once my vacation started. Currently I only have a windows xp partition, and I'm wondering how I could just restore the default bootup that you have on a plain windows box. My laptop definitely won't work correctly with DSL, so I'm going to try and get it back to normal before working on getting DSL working on my desktop. Posted by larkl on April 09 2006,11:14
Are you saying that you installed grub on your XP machine and now you want the Windows boot loader back? I think you can do fdisk /mbr from a command prompt. I use < AEFDisk > for this type of thing. You may need something like this or maybe an old W95/98 boot floppy?

Actually, I originally installed Lilo, and so far it's done this -twice-. However, the first time I still had the DSL partition, so I simply reinstalled DSL and re-installed Lilo. This time, I removed DSL because it simply doesn't work correctly with my laptop, and now the problem is I can't do the DSL HD install to re-install Lilo or Grub because the only partition is my XP partition.A big problem I'm having is I have no floppy drive, so I need a CD boot ISO with either grub, lilo, or something that will restore it to how XP normally boots (prefer to do it that way). |
