I got an iso file on, /usr/idk/dsl...iso and one on C:\dsl\dsl...isoI also got a boot floppy. Now, how do I install dsl? I don't got a CD, but shouldn't it be possible to mount with the isos? I'm a newbie, so give rather easy instructions. Do I need to create a 55MB partition with the iso? If so how do I 'burn' the iso to the partition? Posted by cmanb on April 16 2006,22:51
I'm pretty sure you'll need to download dsl-embedded to do what you're thinking of. And then, once you have all that unpackaged, you should be able to boot from the floppy with a "fromhd=/dev/hda1 qemu frugal" cheatcode. DSL is only 50mb, but with QEMU added, the directory will be almost 100mb. Posted by IDK on April 16 2006,23:01
One thing that I didn't understand was that installing and booting was two different things... Atleast here...I simply did as the tutorial said: extracted the iso to C:\KNOPPIX\, rebooted, and it worked. I then installed it with the boot command install, rebooted and here I am. This is the fastest OS I've seen! My comp is very slow but dsl makes it faster than my fastest, that really lags. To put things in prespective: 'This' computer with dsl: 64mb ram, Pentium 2 My fast computer with win XP: 512 mb ram, Pentium 4 And dsl is faster!!! |
