Hi. Yesterday I purchased a linux magazine that came with dsl linux 2.0 (live and hard disc install). I cant seem to get it installed onto my hardrive. I followed the steps to create a partition but wont seem to work (sudo su cfdisk e.c.t).Anyonw have any idea why I cant install it to my hardrive? Posted by doobit on April 19 2006,12:03
I thinkwe need a little more detail on those steps. It's possible that you never actually created a useable partition.I also recommend you download and burn DSL-2.3.iso Posted by Guest on April 19 2006,13:20
And what kind of an computer you have? Old/new desktop, old/new laptop? If your computer has sis hd controller it wont work, works only if you install new kernel(dont know about the newest ver. never tested it, but 2.0 is not going to work with sis). Or your hard drive is broken. Or you dont have a hard drive( as seen on other topic at this area ) Posted by pr0f3550r on April 19 2006,14:59

How much ram does the unit have.. this is very important even if you are running run level 2 to create partitions..if the unit will run dsl live cd then install will be easy with a little help to create partitions.ie128 meg ram.. if you have low ram you can still enjoy dsl but will need a swap file. I used alternative floppy based linux fdisk to create partitions for a unit with low ram and it installed well..dsl is very versitile so it is important to know what you wish to do with it...and on what kind of unit..first you need to list your specs and get some partitions created correctly..then decide how you want to install..and what you want it to do for you. |
