mouse goes crazy on startupForum: HD Install Topic: mouse goes crazy on startup started by: itaychi Posted by itaychi on May 24 2006,09:00
i did a frugal install, and it works well, except that every time that i boot the computer the mouse goes completely crazy for a few minutes - i move it a bit to the right and it's all over the place, if i wait a bit and then move it slowly it returns to function normally and i can start using the computer, this is a mouse i normally use on another computer without any problems btw.anyone got a clue? It seems to be the X server adjusting its configuration for a different mouse than what is specified in .xserverrc, although this is just a guess. I often see similar behavior, with the mouse sometimes jumping for a second, or clicking on its own, and then everything is normal.

thing is, i don't see much options to configure the mouse when i do xsetup, it's a ps/s, got a scroll thingie, what else could there be?would such an adjustment leave traces somewhere in the log files? Posted by cbagger01 on May 27 2006,17:23
The Kdrive/TinyX/Freedesktop.org XVesa and xfbdev servers have a built-in mouse protocol auto-detection routine. This routine trys to figure out what protocol your mouse speaks, IE: Microsoft PS2, Intellimouse PS2, Logitech, Microsoft Serial, etc. It is likely that the xserver is unable to quickly determine your mouse's protocol language so it takes some time before it stops jumping around from protocol to protocol. Your best bet for resolution is: 1) Install the XFree86.dsl extension and use it instead of the default XVesa/xfbdev 2) Try a different mouse 3) Download the source code for the X server from the freedesktop.org site, manually edit the autodetection source code to FORCE the server to only use your mouse's protocol and recompile the modified program. |
