I have a hard drive install and need to edit my hosts file, which is read only. At some point I managed to change everything to read-write, but messsed up that install and cant remember how I did it. Anyone know how to convert the filesystem over to read-write? Yes, I am trying to edit the file as SU, before you ask

This is a frugal install

/etc/hosts is a writeable file in a typical frugal system, so i'd have to ask if you are sure you're editing it as root?
Another poosibility....are you trying to edit /KNOPPIX/etc/hosts? This can't be done without remastering the KNOPPIX file.

I am going in as SU, and when I open the file it says RO and wont let me edit it, also blue instead of black. No it is not in the knoppix directory.

I don't really know why that is. You somehow mounted / as readonly? Try the command "mount" with no parameters to see if it says "(ro)" for /dev/root. I believe you can remount a filesystem read-write, but i can't recall what the command is.

I tried VI also from the dsl 2 menu, and still read-only.
