The BIOS does not support booting from cd rom only floppy. so i downloaded the bootflopy.img and the dsl-2.4.iso and and now i am
completley lost. i boot up with the floppy and it gives me a boot: promt. press enter to begin blabla bla anyway it fails to load linux24

Before install DSL to hard disk you need run DSL in "live mode"

The method recommended is this:
METHOD I
1. You can burnning the dsl-2.4.iso to CD-R as is explained here:
< Burning a Bootable CD >

2. Insert CD into CD drive and floppy disk into floppy drive. Boot the computer from floppy disk. Then automatically the boot floppy program boot DSL from CDROM.

Other Method, if you want not burnning a DSL CD:
METHOD II

The boot floppy can't boot DSL from the dsl-2.4.iso file directly copied to hard disk, but inside the ISO file there are a folder called KNOPPIX. You can extract the folder KNOPPIX from the dsl-2.4.iso file and copy it on the hard disk.
Important: Make sure that the name of the folder KNOPPIX is in uppercase letters.
Insert the boot floppy and boot the computer.
The boot floppy program automatically scans the drives searching for the KNOPPIX folder.

That launch DSL using the file onto hard disk as well as DSL boot from CDROM. Therefore, DSL was not installed to hard disk but will run "live mode" from RAM memory.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally you can do the hard disk installation. However note there are two methods: Full Installation and Frugal Installation. I recommend you the Frugal Installation.

i have done this already and it works. But i want to go a step further..
No HD install, but boot dsl via grub this way.
linux24 and minirt24.gz are on hd(0,8)/dsl/ (and the other files, like f2 and f3). the *.iso is unpacked on /dev/hda8. It works if i boot from the dsl-flop. but not from grub.

title dsl
root (hd0,8)
kernel /dsl/kernel24
initrd       /dsl/minirt24.gz
savedefault
boot

what do i have to do to get dsl booting this way
