I have managed to do a frugal install of DSL to hdc1 (despite it trying to stop me), firstly i have to use hdc as i am installing it to a CF card on a biscuit bord, also this biscuit bord dosen't like letting me use grub (just comes up with hd error when i try to use grub) anyway, my problem is that i can't seem to get it to use the image in hdc1 if i have my flash drive plugged in wiht a dsl image on it it will boot fine from that but when i don't have that plugged in it will fail to boot, at the stage where it searches for the DSL image, when it can't find it, it prints out where it's looking for it and it only prints out USB devices, not any hard drives, could this be because i might be using the kernel from the USB boot floppy? Any help would be appreceated

The specialized boot floppies do indeed change or elminate devices from detection. I would suggest to use the full standard boot floppy if you must.
