Hi.  I've got a Dell Inspiron LM.
Cpu p133 MMX, Ram-16 megs, HD - 1.5 gigs.

I can hook up a cd-rom or a floppy, but not both at the same time.  It won't boot from CD.

Would I be able to run DSL with X-windows on this laptop and how could I install it?

I appreciate any help anyone could offer.

Assumes an existing DOS/Win95/Win98/WinME install.

Boot with CDROM

Copy files from the DSL cd over to the C:\ drive, but USE UPPERCASE LETTERS for the directory names and file names, IE:

C:\KNOPPIX\KNOPPIX

Then boot the livecd on a different computer and use the "Create a Boot Floppy" command from the menu and create a DSL boot floppy.

Finally, plug your floppy drive into your laptop and use your boot floppy to boot DSL.

FYI, if you want read/write access to you C: drive, be sure to boot with this command:

dsl frugal

Then you can use emelfm as Super User to copy files over to your C:\ drive if needed.
