menu.lst file neededForum: HD Install Topic: menu.lst file needed started by: hardbop200 Posted by hardbop200 on June 20 2006,20:44
Hello,I am running Debian on my computer, but would like to have DSL on there for when I need to boot up "with a quickness." Thus, my idea is to copy the Knoppix folder to the root of my hard drive and add an entry to boot it with my existing grub install. can someone who has done a frugal grub install post the default menu.lst file from /boot/grub/ so I can copy the parameters? Thank you, Josh Posted by kerry on June 20 2006,20:59

Kerry,Sorry I didn't tell you this yesterday, but thank you for the pointer. Grub is working great, however, I'm doing something wrong. I initially thought I could copy the /isolinux and /KNOPPIX folder to a folder on my root partition and boot from there. Indeed, it boots, but then complains about not being able to find the KNOPPIX file system, and drops me into the limited shell. Where should that KNOPPIX folder be in relation to the other folders to get this to work? Keeping the file/folder structure the same (under my /dsl folder) doesn't seem to do the trick. Got any ideas? Josh Posted by mikshaw on June 22 2006,03:08
Please post the grub section of your grub menu.lst, the partition on which you copied the directories (hda1, sda40, whatever), the filesystem of that partition (ext2,fat16,whatever), and what type of connection that device has (IDE, USB, whatever).
