FDisk HelpForum: HD Install Topic: FDisk Help started by: SirRawlins Posted by SirRawlins on June 22 2006,09:02
Hello Guys,I'm very new to linux installtions but i'm slowly learning, i've now determined that its a Frugal install i need to perform onto my compact flash card, and i've found an excelent tutorial on how to do so in the FTP site. I'm stuck in the initial stages though when it comes to having to format and partition my space. I've never used fdisk before and trying to find a decent document that discusses it is a little tricky, so thought i'd post here for your help. I have a 128Mb IDE Compact flash, its connected as the master drive in my first IDE port on my main board. I've booted into the DSL GUI from the CD that i burned from the version 3.0 ISO. What do i need do next? I've tried closing the GUI interface and sitting on the command prompt as that's where i feel most at home, and i've tried running fdisk /dev/hda to see what happends, I cant remember the exact error messsages as i've had a few kick up at me, some regarding permissions and some saying it was unable to open the device. If anyone can provide me with a simple step-by-step type guie on how to partition this drive it would be greatly appreciated. Rob Posted by SirRawlins on June 22 2006,12:13
Thanks guys but i'm all sorted now.Turned out i hadn't logged in as SU and thats why it was kicking up a permissions fuss. All done and installed with frugal now. Rob |
