Hello,

I would like to install DSL on a Laptop with 8 MB RAM w/o a CDROM.

Does that make sense at all or is DSL too large for such a system??

I booted the bootfloppy.img, but during bootup the floppy hang (both with no further option and with lowmem).

TinyLinux installs fine, so it seems to be at least not a hardware issue.

What would be the right debug data to provide?

Thanks.
Rainer

Right now the installation hangs after mounting the root filesystem and the "Welcome to DSL" screen...

Greetings..

It goes without saying that for me, DSL is the best thing around.  That aside, for your hardware I would think you have a few options.  Find an embedded version of Linux that would only take a miniscule amount of Ram to run. ( I admittedly dont know what Embedded DSL takes). Embeded DSL, uClinux,
something like that.. Alternatively something else that is NOT linux.. like Minix, Menuet, Symphony.. a few others as such..
Just a few suggestions to ponder.

It kills me when I hear people refer to older hardware as useless.  There is even developement still on going for DOS.

 OK.. Carpe Diem !

Peace,

Mark
