I made a boot floppy using rawwrite.exe then when restarting my Windows 95 laptop I am geeting the following messages:
- <enter>
Loading Linux 24
Loading minirt 24.gz
OK, booting the kernel
- Welcome to DSL ...
Then
- Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
Press reset button to quit.
Additional builtin commands
knoppix#
I have copied KNOPPIX into c:\KNOPPIX\KNOPPIX with upper case as mentioned.
I am close but need more help to enjoy DSL...

Your procedure is correct.
Anyway check if KNOPPIX filename is actually uppercase because some Windows versions return the name to lowercase.

I think that's exactly what's happening: when I look at the file name (or folder name) it's in UPPERCASE but when I select it, it's like this Knoppix even though I see KNOPPIX when I rename it?
I'll check if there is a way to have Windows format the way I want. Thanks.

This tip was written before and it worked, the author was Reidy-:

I found out that you can't actually make a folder / file in uppercase. It instantly puts KNOPPIX back to Knoppix (in Windows 98/95/SE) but you can do it in DOS:

Boot to DOS

then (type this into the console)

CD C:\knoppix
rename knoppix knoppix123
rename knoppix123 KNOPPIX

then to rename the directory

rename C:\knoppix knoppix1234
rename C:\knoppix1234 KNOPPIX

You must change it to something different first otherwise you will get an error changing it from Knoppix to KNOPPIX

Checked everything and it's fine. I have c:\KNOPPIX\KNOPPIX and the KNOPPIX file + the Boot in the first KNOPPIX directory. Still getting the same error message. Was wondering if it can be the KNOPPIX file? or the boot floppy creation file?
Is there a place I can download a clean KNOPPIX?

When the boot floppy scan looking for the KNOPPIX folder no mather if the KNOPPIX file is wrong or right. Only the filename is important. Of course that afterward, if the KNOPPIX file have problems will not able to load DSL but before you would see the "KNOPPIX file found" message.

Anyway you can check the dsl-x.x.iso file so:
- Check if md5summed and the checksums match to know if the ISO file was corrupted during the download process. < Getting DSL From the Mirrors >
