You could use a boot floppy to boot the cdrom, as one option.

yup i can do that, but after that what? i did that to install win98, with install.exe but how can i do that with DSL?

You can right click on the desktop to get a menu.  Under the Tools menu there are options to install.  What kind of install are you thinking about?  You can do a frugal install (which copies the image to the win98 partition and installs a boot manager so you can boot to win98 or DSL).  If the system is slower and you don't have a lot of ram you may want to do a regular HD install (which would require repartitioning unless you already have a partition available, one for swap would also be good).  Using the frugal install you can set up a dos swap file (similar to what windows uses) if you have low ram.

well i guess i better get rid of win98 and install just dsl, 32mb of ram wont handle too much.
thats why i want to do a clean hd install, i went to download page, but cant find the frugal install, i just found some isos and the boot disk

File: dsl-3.0.1-embedded.zip   51180 KB   21/06/2006
File: dsl-3.0.1-syslinux.iso 50210 KB 20/06/2006
File: dsl-3.0.1-vmx.zip 49911 KB 20/06/2006
File: dsl-3.0.1.iso 50592 KB 20/06/2006 11:58:00 p.m.

So wich one should i use, and how, any tutorial to install dsl through diskette and HD? i found a couple but with CD

use the commands from a terminal window:

sudo fdisk
or
sudo cfdisk
for partitioning

sudo mke2fs /dev/hda? (the partiton number goes where the ? is)
for formatting the ext2 partiton for linux

use mkswap /dev/hda?
to format any swap partition you create

If you use the install to HD instead of the frugal install it will format automatically

For the frugal install I think that the partition must be formatted but the format is not really important (only for the swap partition if you plan to have a seperate swap).  You can use a seperate swap partition or use a dos swap file.

Your system specs will determine what kind of install you do.  More ram means frugal is best but low ram machines are best with regular HD install.  There is no reason you can't have win98 and DSL installed together (make sure win98 is installed first) but you will probably find DSL will be your main OS.
