Gnu-utils without internet connection in DSLForum: HD Install Topic: Gnu-utils without internet connection in DSL started by: wfierz Posted by wfierz on July 23 2006,15:52
Well, I'm new here so forgive me my stupid questions I bought an old Toshiba Portege 300CT on ebay (no cdrom, no net) and managed to do a HD-Install with only the floppy drive (keeping the Win98 intact). I haven't figured out the right keyboard and how to set the correct screen resolution (1024x600 I guess), but that's not so important right now. I wanted to "Upgrade to GNU Utils" and I obviously get the message that the files could not be downloaded. I copied them with a USB stick to /home/dsl, but when I retried, the script tried to download ... Now (finally ) to my questions: - How can I Upgrade to GNU Utils without an internet connection? - How can I determine which script is run when I choose some menu? - I copied files from /mnt/sda1 and they showed the right size, but after some time when I check again, the showed up as 0 bytes. What happened? Thanks for your help Werner Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on July 23 2006,18:35
Hopefully, here are some answers to the questions you are looking for:1. myDSL is also available from < http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/damnsmall/mydsl/ > 2. open up ~/.fluxbox/menu as plain text 3. What do you mean? Please describe in detail. Posted by u2musicmike on July 24 2006,13:31
Werner,You don't have to use the myDsl in the control panel or icon. If you have a file already downloaded open up emelfm, highlight the file name, and click the mydsl button. Posted by wfierz on July 24 2006,20:45
Thanks for your answers. I could solve my problem.I opened up ~/.fluxbox/menu to determine which script is running and commented the lines to fetch the files. And .. the files show the right size (no idea what happened). One more thing: where is the mydsl button in emelfm. I have some buttons like copy, move etc., but none is labeled mydsl. Scroll up the middle column - sometimes it gets hidden

I'm looking at emelfm and I don't see a mydsl button anywhere either. Is there a command line way to install a mydsl package? Specifically a firefox.tar.gz that I've downloaded to /tmp? Posted by kerry on July 25 2006,14:28
what dsl version?in 3.0+ it was moved to the mydsl browser icon Posted by charliez on July 25 2006,16:40
v2.3. But I don't think I need emelFM anymore since I found mydsl-load filename |
