cfdisk issueForum: HD Install Topic: cfdisk issue started by: ArmorDragon Posted by ArmorDragon on July 29 2006,12:50
Hey guys.I'm a DSL newbie (and Linux newbie for that matter) and have been using the embedded version of DSL. I have an old computer that apparently can run DSL just fine and I tried to do a HDD install but for some reason, cfdisk does not detect the HDD. The error prompt is something like "CFDISK does not detect disk drive". I can't figure out how to get this done so I figured I'd come onto the forums and get some help. Any and all help is really appreciated. Posted by Someone on Aug. 01 2006,06:19
type:sudo cfdisk at command line. If that gives the same error then your computer does not have a Hard drive Posted by ArmorDragon on Aug. 01 2006,14:10
I solved the first issue that I had. "cfdisk /dev/sda1" is what I had to type in instead of "cfdisk /dev/hda1". I'm having other issues (finding the KNOPPIX image or something along those lines...) but I don't think that they'll be that hard to take care of. Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Aug. 02 2006,03:20
are you sure its /dev/sda1 ?I think you should be using just /dev/sda , but if that works for you, then it's okay. Posted by Someone on Aug. 02 2006,04:43
Your computer seems to have a scsi hd's, correct?Maybe you should choose "install to usb-hdd" install option. Linux detects usb sticks as scsi disks and scsi disks as scsi disks so if you install it as usb install then it would be like it's on a scsi disk, which in this case is scsi disk. I don't know what i am talking about, but try that usb-hdd install option it should work Posted by ArmorDragon on Aug. 03 2006,02:00
To Someone: I see what you mean. I'll try that one out. I didn't know what the "s" in "sda" stood for but it's clearer now. Hehehe. I've been searching for the answer to that problem for quite a bit.To thehatsrule: I've been getting getting "sda" and "sda1" confused XD I'm learning quickly. |
