Yes, I am a newbie. Yes, I know HD installs are not everyone's favorite as image installs are the mainstay of this distro. Yes, I could do this in Puppy, but I like DSL much better!hda1 = 3.0 DSL install hda2 = swap hda3 = all my data hda4 = mydsl startup command line in grup has mydsl=hda4 and toram. I have downloaded: firefox-1.5.uci jre1_5_0.uci gqwiew.dsl rar.dsl p7zip.dsl rox.dsl using the mydsl extension tool, I "load local mydsl extension" of firefox and it shows up on the fluxbox "mydsl" menu. However, it does not run. I also load jre at the same time and it stil does not run. I can see them in the UCI tool. Rox and gqview run just fine as does rar on the command line. p7zip does not seem to exist in the system. I have tried everything to get Firefox 1.5 to run and it just never starts. I finally gave up and decided to download and install the actual distro from mozilla.com since size is not that big of an issue for me.. I cannot get that .gz package to decompress and install. I upgraded to the gnu utils and that did not help. Does anyone know how to get the HD install to run the UCI version of Firefox 1.5? Did you install the gtk2.dsl extension, it needs that to work. to unpack tar files you can use emelfm click on it to select than right click> unpack or in command line> tar -xzvf (name.tgz). When you download you should read the discription it will tell you if anything else is needed to run it before clicking download.

Adding gtk2-0705.dsl solved the problem. Guess it just was not that obvious to me that the gtk stuff was necessary for UCI packages.Yeah, I tried the unpack on elemfm but did not know what to do from there (and the mozilla read me was not much help). No, it's not needed for UCI packages in general, only that firefox build required it though. To roberts if you're reading this: that gtk2 dependency should be added to the .info file. |
