LiLo doesn't workForum: HD Install Topic: LiLo doesn't work started by: sxkorean Posted by sxkorean on Aug. 29 2006,17:29
I HD installed, and quite often, when I turn on the computer, it starts up, and then where it normally show Lilo or Grub, it hangs, and shows a L. Grub did the same thing, except it said Grub. error 18 or error 16.The only way I can then fix it is to boot from the LIve CD, and remount the hard drive paritions, reboot, and then get back to business. If this helps I figured out it's only when I turn on the computer, not restart it.

I'll definitely retry the whole partition thing, I partitioned about 800MB, so I'll check what my BIOS can handle, but GRUB didn't give me the option of booting windows, so I stuck with Lilo, which will have no error message, just an:L Or sometimes: L 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 Only when I cold start it though, which to me is perplexing, I' had luck with the link, which, after some more readings and links found me: < http://www.google/linux > Posted by superstraw on Feb. 08 2007,04:55
I also have the problem with the current version, Lilo shows L then 99's alot... Using Grub works however. I'm just more familiar with lilo than grub but no biggie.

What's your partition layout? Where do you have Windows, where did you install DSL, do you have anything else on there? Not sure what the deal is between remounting/rebooting since rebooting unmounts everything again. Sounds like something's conflicting in your MBR/partition table, though. You might have to back it up (just in case), zero it out, and try either LILO or GRUB again. If you have any questions about doing that, ask before you do anything. |
