Right click on the desktop.
Apps -> Tools -> Install to hard drive.

(You could also try some other distros before you install.  Ubuntu would probably be a good choice because you can try the live CD (similar to Damn Small Linux) and if you like it, you just double click on the icon and install it to your hard drive.  Personally, I run Debian on any computers I work with, but Ubuntu is probably more newbie friendly.)

Much better to use a frugal install - right click desktop->apps->tools->frugal install->frugal grub install. THis is better than a hard drive install as you can't screw up the installed OS (it is reloaded each time you reboot) & DSL extensions can be removed by rebooting. With a hard drive install removing DSL extensions once they are installed is harder.

Here's my problem.  DSL runs great and all that jazz, but cfdisk doesn't work and it won't let me simply install to my second partition which is (mostly) empty.

So how can I install if cfdisk fails to work?

Crap, can't edit posts.

Anyway, I just realized one has to go into the shell at root access in order to run cfdisk.

D'oh!
