I would like to use a CF card as my 'hard drive' and install DSL to it, make my necessary setup changes and make it read only.

I have seen some posts on this but am a little confused.

Should I still make a swap partition of 128MB and use the rest for the install?

If you are using a CF card, you should use one of those CF install scripts, or some frugal install.  You do _not_ want a swap partition, nor a traditional hd-install to save the writes done on the device.

Sorry - 'those' CF install scripts?  I couldn't find any info on a 'CF install' in the forum.

Do you mean something like this (from the wiki)?

If you boot DSL like this from the first boot prompt:

boot: install

You will see many install options.

If you have DSL booted normally then from the main menu
Apps->Tools->Frugal Install

Then its your choice grub or lilo
