DSL on terminal igel 332Forum: HD Install Topic: DSL on terminal igel 332 started by: sylweks Posted by sylweks on Oct. 20 2006,23:28
Hello!I have this greate 100% silent TERMINAL from igel, bought for about 26$ (yeap ;) I have 1GB CF there. the ONLY option that i can boot there is from my USB-HDD 20GB. I figured out that i must: 1. install first DSL on that USB-HDD on my PC after booting from CD (will that be easy? will it see that hdd?) 2. boot from that USB-HDD on terminal 3. partition terminals CF (its seen as normal HDD) 4. somehow install DSL on terminal from usb-hdd. Right? Is there more simple way? My plan is that i want to construct system that: is like live cd - read only, but has an option to save settings when i choose (!) and have partition for data. eg. calendar, mail, notes, and developer stuff. Forthose interested igel 332 has 400mhz cpu sse, mmx, 3dnow, 128mb ram, 1gb cf, snd, lan, 3xusb. and consumes 6 wats!!!! omg help ;) Sylweks Posted by Zucca on Oct. 21 2006,00:40
This is OT but:Whoa! That's great. My Armada E500 consumes 7 watts when display is off. And 50 watts when 100% CPU load and display on. (I have oldschool analog watt meter. Really nice, but big.) Posted by sylweks on Oct. 21 2006,11:16

ok im little dissapointed nobody replayed :] I found the solution. I used MS Virtual PC trial. Connected CF card to my PC. In VPC i setup one hard drive as "LINKED TO HARD DISK" and specyfied CF card. I wanted to boot knoppix to setup partitions by capturing iso image (standard option i VPC) didnt work, so i did a trick i selected option "Use psyhical deive X" where X was a Deamon tool virtual cd rom with knopix later dsl-n iso.that was te trick. OK have fun. Posted by the_tom on Nov. 19 2006,21:16
Hi, Im also doing DSL on IGELs. Another solution (which worked for me): Get yourself a cable from an defect standard power supply that has plugs for floppy and for hd drives. Just cut it off. The floppy plug fits onto the IGEL-board. plug it in. The HD-Plug goes to a standard CD-Rom drive. Jumper the CD-ROM as slave. Attach a normal IDE-cable with three plugs. Go on as you like. Anyway you _MUST_ do a frugal install. Normal HD-installation will kill your CF-Card in less than half a year. Greets Thomas btw i got my IGEL booting in less than a minute ;-) |
