Lilo dualboot problemForum: HD Install Topic: Lilo dualboot problem started by: DSLbeaker Posted by DSLbeaker on Oct. 22 2006,15:03
I have a laptop with W2K already on hda1. I partitioned and tried to install frugal DSL with Grub on a second partition and Grub gave an error. I then intalled frugal DSL with Lilo and the install went fine except Lilo goes straight to DSL and does not give a chance to choose either OS. I tried to change lilo.conf but it is locked read-only. What do I do now? I know W2K is still there because i can mount hda1 and see everything. Posted by Johnnie Price on Oct. 22 2006,17:13
Unless you run frugal toram, the boot partition will always be read-only. Try running the livecd again, mount your DSL boot partition from there and then edit lilo.conf. Don't forget to run lilo afterwards.Read < this > section of the wiki for more help. Posted by DSLbeaker on Oct. 23 2006,03:20
Not so successful. Please excuse my ignorance. I obviously got in way over my head. I only know enough to get myself in trouble, not out. I ran DSL from disk with "toram". I mounted hda3 and changed /mnt/hda3/boot/lilo.conf to the following:
I then ran the command:
and I received the following:
Upon reboot, the computer went straight to DSL. Now What? Is there a different map I can use? Posted by DSLbeaker on Oct. 25 2006,11:38
Well the problem seems to have fixed itself. I was able to install GAG .< GAG, The Graphical Boot Manager > and that worked great. But then I re-installed DSL, this time to HD, not frugal. I chose GRUB when the time came and it worked automagically. It dual boots just fine now and my wife won't kill me for ruining our computer Use Grub or GAG, forget LiLo. Lilo works fine when you do a "anti-frugal" install, does'nt work with frugal install.Grub works with both.... |
