getting X to work - frame buffer old laptopForum: HD Install Topic: getting X to work - frame buffer old laptop started by: frego Posted by frego on Nov. 14 2006,02:30
I've got a gateway solo 2500. It's a Celeron 300MHZ with 32MB RAM. I can get the live CD of DSL 3.01 to work by booting with the fb800x600 option. It looks great and wanted to install it to the HD. So I followed the instructions at < http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/dsl-hd-install.html. > However after rebooting, X fails to start. I assume it's because no where was I given the chance to tell it to use the frame buffer option. I looked at the dsl-hdinstall script but am not sure what exactly is being done when the Live CD passes the fb800x600 option. It must be a parameter to the kernel? Does anyone know what I need to do to get X running? I thought I might just be able to copy the xorg.conf from when I am booted up into the Live CD over the one in my /dev/hda2 from the dsl-hdinstall script. But I see there is no xorg.conf. Where are those settings at under DSL?

DSL does not use X.Org.Try running xsetup.sh Posted by roberts on Nov. 14 2006,15:45
Using fb800x600 also uses the boot option vga=788You might want to check that too, as your boot append line may have the default of vga=791 and some older laptops cannot handle that. |
