hi all, basic infos:
im a noob with linux
hda1 NTFS win xp
hda2 FAT32 for backing up files
hda3 hd install of DSL 3.1RC3 (not frugal)
hda4 linux swap

i tried several installs of DSL frugal and HD with grub, lilo, several tries cause sometimes it didnt work... anyway i think the MBR got pretty messed up cause i finally installed a hd install with lilo but in the boot directory it was grub, with lilo.conf nowhere to be found. But when booting it was lilo boot loader that started. Since i needed to add some cheat codes to lilo for installing my damn AC97 soundcard i did fdisk /mbr to clean it. Now DSL wont start. What should i do?

I read somewhere but i cant find it anymore that the boot loaders can be installed to the partition instead of the mbr. How can i do that? In this case how can i dual boot with windows? Can i manage somewhow with GAG loader? Is it possible to reinstall lilo or grub without having to reinstall DSL? Thanks

dsl-3.1RC4 will support gag boot loader by using lilo.
It will be out real soon now.

I've just installed RC4 but still cant see lilo.conf anywhere. I now boot with GAG and lilo is installed on hda3.
Like the new skin though :).
I need to add cheat code to loading, cause i need ALSA for skype and for sound support in general (integrated AC97 on my Dell X200 laptop). I have no sound what so ever. Sndconfig didnt work, nor does the tone://1000 testing.

Editiing lilo is covered in the wiki.
It is not so simple if you are running toram mode.
However, you could have specified 'alsa' boot option upon installation and avoid having to go back to edit/change lilo boot options. Planning ahead makes it easy.
That is why the lilo install version has always prompted for all the various boot options that you may need.
