forceing i586 kernel to loadForum: HD Install Topic: forceing i586 kernel to load started by: flyereddie Posted by flyereddie on Dec. 04 2006,04:34
Hi , Im trying to get DSL to run on some hardware that is i586 compatible but gets reported back as i686, I found some info on the net from someone who is running DSL on similar hardware and it states that you must use the kernel-x.x.x-i586.config configuration as a starting point, I'm pretty new to this any suggestions on how to do thisThanks Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Dec. 04 2006,15:20
I think DSL's kernel is built for i386, which should be compatible with everything newer. What cpu are you using? Posted by flyereddie on Dec. 05 2006,06:19
ThanksYes we just got it up and running its a little hard as we only had a network connection to try the install , finlay gave up and bought some connectors and a CD drive . The system is a Geode system national semiconductor chipset Posted by skaos on Dec. 06 2006,12:34
If you're interested, then you can find some info about the processor with this command: more /proc/cpuinfo
