I've burned iso images to cd before, admitedly using different software, but I have done it.
I have downloaded damn small linux .iso images. One of which was: < ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions...ent/current.iso >
And I used magicISO (alongside some other programs) to burn it to a cd. It burned the cd and I tried to boot my laptop and my pc from it but it did not work. And I have no idea why. Can someone link me directly to the latest dsl.iso image? And does anyone here have a link to a good free program to burn .iso images to cd?
Because, well, I have absolutely no idea why it doesn't work, except my inability to use software or the fact the .iso images are wrong.

You've cut that url a bit.. but I can guess the original looked right.

Take a look at the wiki for instructions for getting started with DSL.

Just a thought: did you set your computers' BIOS's to boot off the cd media?

Yes, I set both computer's bioses correctly.
I didnt realise it had cut the URL, but it really does not matter, I have tried it with 3 .iso images I believe, all from the sites listed on the dsl page, yet none of them had the correct checksum - I was unable to find one that did

I will check the wiki though nonetheless.

Uh oh, if you don't have the correct md5sum, that means your download was corrupt. In any case, (esp. if you have a flaky connection) I'd suggest you use a downloading tool that supports resuming, such as "wget -c <url>".

(Since you're using windows, I'm guessing you're using IE, which is very bad for downloading

)

IE. I'm hurt. Firefox is fully compatible with microsoft windows, in fact I believe most of firefox's users use windows. So, im using firefox :P
I cant use bittorrent as all ports minus the magic 80 = closed

And Im not setting up portforwarding tonight as I am browsing the web

I think the laptops cd drive was broken, windows cannot detect it.
Im going to dry a poor mans install, with a compatible cd drive I found taht windows might be able to read but the machien can't boot from.

heh, even I sometimes have trouble using web browser when downloading large binaries...

so using wget or some other downloading manager should work for you

The iso images were not currupted - but the cd drive would not let itself be booted from. For soem unknown reason none of the actuall dsl iso images have the same md5 checksum as it says they should!

if the checksums are not the same, your current iso images ARE corrupted.... that's what they are used to check for!
