In reference to: < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....t=15824 >
I got most of the way through this, but after asking me what type of video, keyboard, and mouse I wanted to use, I got the error:
Code Sample
modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module fb0
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining

and it dropped me to a command prompt.  Typing "exit" gives me the error again.  What's wrong and what can I do to fix this so I can install DSL to my hard drive?

Do you boot with loadlin from dos? If so, I seem to remember that this error message is related to tsr's, drivers etc. loaded by dos. Try a clean dos boot - I think you can do this by pressing F5 or F8 while booting.

I tried it, and it didn't work.  I pressed F5 while booting, and it told me it was bypassing my startup files/settings, but after I started "loadlin @options.txt", it gave me the same message as before.

I tried using XVESA for video instead of XFBDEV, and I didn't get that error.  Instead, DSL booted up with the screen messed up.  I tried the lowest resolution and color bit-depth.  Maybe someone would know how to fix this?

I've tried using the newest version, 3.1, and it did the same thing.

I tried using the syslinux version and the included boot floppy.  It gave me the same message, showing that it has nothing to do with DOS drivers that were loaded.  Incidentally, if I boot from the syslinux CD on my main computer and choose framebuffering, I have no problems.
