I am new to linux and I am trying to install DSL on a really old laptop.  The laptop has a CDROM, but it is not bootable.  I am able to boot from floppy, but the floppy and CDROM can't be in at the same time.  The hard drive is also messed up so I can't boot to that.  My current idea is to try to get the hard drive to boot HAL 91, then install that way.  Any other ideas, or help doing it they way I'm trying?

Thanks!

Does your laptop have a USB port? If so, you can boot from floppy using the "fromusb" cheat code

If you have a spare IDE HD, you can possibly plug it in the same place as the floppy/CD go - I've done this with HD from other laptops, if you take them out of their packaging the connections are the same.

You could perhaps boot from a DOS floppy and reformat the "messed-up" HD

Super Fdisk is a great totally free utility for blasting a screwed up HDD.   Worked for me.

< Super Fdisk 1.0 >

It's near the bottom of the page.
