okay, so i have dsl on a old 486 laptop with a 125mb hard drive and 4 mb of ram....no cdrom drive. i copy files and etc using a dos boot disk, but there is no real OS installed on the hard drive.i have the KNOPPIX\KNOPPIX image copied to the hard drive, and i am currently booting with a dsl boot floppy. i don't have partitions on my hard drive, the image is located at c:\KNOPPIX\KNOPPIX when i boot first i get the dsl boot menu, and i put in boot dsl vga=normal... then it uncompresses linux, then loads the kernel, and then shows me a little ascii art that says "welcome to dsl"... and then that is all. i am unable to do anything after this. i want to know how to get to the graphical "desktop" where i can run programs and use my mouse, etc. i thought dsl would be a great way to make this little monster good for something, but i'm totally new to linux so you might have to explain things a bit. thanks! 4mb isn't enough for the default DSL + TinyX + frugal.(Though I'm guessing your error was that the system couldn't find the knoppix image) |
