I have an old DELL inspiron 3200 P2 laptop I want to run DSL on as the only OS it currently has no OS so it wont boot into anything it has no CD drive.
IT DOES HAVE A USB port.

I dont think I will need to use a floppy to boot from.
I downloaded dsl-3.1.iso to the c: of the pc I am on right now.

How do I go about installing DSL on the laptop?

PLease remember I am really new to this all so please be patient with me.

Hi!

At first you should check the Bios of your notebook whether it can boot from USB or not. If not you will need a boot-floppy.

Otherwise the steps should be something like:

Use another PC to burn the iso File to a CD
Boot this PC from that CD
After DSL has loaded from CD right-click Desktop and choose to do a USB Pendrive install (you will need a Pendrive after all :;): )
Then follow the instructions of the scipt

Change your laptops BIOS-settings to boot from USB (might be not possible on your old machine as mentioned)
Now boot your laptop from the USB Pendrive you made

When DSL finally runs on your laptop you can decide to do a frugal/hdd install by right-clicking the desktop again and choosing the appropriate Menupoint.

If you have further questions to the points I mentioned above I suppose you would find the answers in no time using the WIKI/Documentation/ForumSearch.

Good luck, Jan
