Greetings ALL from the edge of the world. This is NOT a broken DSL post! DSL RoX my box ;) We got a Toshiba Satallite 1005 on the bench and it was designed to ONLY run XP/ME. We D-lite in breaking windows so we re-partitoned it with a nice swap and started to load Knoppix - the owners choice - and it hung part way and froze. Gave it a few goes, resized and formatted etc to see if we could bust it up and switched to other distros and got the same thing. Then when BBC hung we noticed it was this odd sim70:RCx?x?xx??? something and looked it up and found an unresolved hardware issue relating to the 2.6x kernel. Popped in the O'l 2005 DSL - 2.4.x kernel to see if it would work and the bugger hung.... BUT switched to "Expert" mode and chose "n" on the SCSI and we were happy penguins! So... ! Outstanding ! Kudos for the DSL team for giving the power to the people. Does anyone else ever get this error? Does anyone here know if the latest DSL have the "Expert" mode? We are downloading DSLN right now BTW. The User likes the look of Knoppix - that KDE feel - and Galaga. We are going to try to make this thing look KDE with color and wallpaper and get it a fair outing. Thanks ALL for a great Distro and your time. Posted by roberts on Feb. 03 2007,15:10
