Hi all, I'm trying to install DSL on a P2 233 Mhz, 64 Mb ram, 15 Gb hard drive. Since I can't boot from the CD Drive, I use a disquette to boot then use the CD from the drive.I have the DSL splash screen, I press enter, the thing begins to boot, he says he detects usb stuff, and then everything stops, ending by a kernel panic. Here's a picture, as I can't type everything on the screen: < http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/8804/ssa40996an3.jpg > Furthermore, the poorman's method does not work (OS used: Win98). Any help appreciated. Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Feb. 13 2007,21:22
Can you get an earlier screenshot?Try booting with "dsl failsafe lowram" maybe.. or other cheat codes (see wiki) To avoid all those scanning entries, you might also add "fromhd=/dev/sda1" Posted by Noxneo on Feb. 14 2007,08:02
Well what happens is the following:-i have the tux logo, and the Welcome to DSL Ascii-Art -then I have 4 lines saying "found USB devices handled by...*name of driver* -and then I have all the lines like showed on the previous screenshot: {DRE}Looking for DSL image in /dev/sda1 etc. Even with your options, the result is the same. By the way, my CD driver is shown as sdc, so I tried bootfromhd=/dev/hdc, but it doesn't work. Oh yeah, and just so you know, I do not want to boot from USB. I want to boot from CD-ROM, and then install DSL on hard drive. Posted by roberts on Feb. 14 2007,16:39
Is your cdrom a scsi device? When you boot poorman's can you access your cdrom? Posted by Noxneo on Feb. 15 2007,09:49
My cdrom isn't a scsi. When I boot poorman's, i can't do anything more than normally.Well anyway, I managed to install DSL by plugging the HD into another PC and then moving it back. Thanks for your help guys. |
