I can't remember exactly what I tweaked, but sufficient to say that now when I attempt to boot, DSL gets no further than the "Running from HD, checking filesystems..." white text on black screen. I have done numerous searches but not found anything relevant.

My boot parameters are:

Kernel /boot/linux24 root=/dev/hda1 quiet vga=normal noacpi noapm nodma nosc frugal

[Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1400, size=0xf17f7]

When booting the following appears:

Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
INIT: version 2.78-knoppix booting
cat: /proc/mounts: No such file or directory
cat: /proc/cmdline: No such file or directory
Running Linux Kernel 2.4.26.
Running from HD, checking filesystems...
Activating swap...
/etc/init.d/checkroot.sh: line 23: /etc/fstab: Input/output error

Your help is much appreciated so I can correct the problem and start using DSL again,  :)

How was dsl installed?  Can you boot via livecd?

Maybe try booting without "quiet" and see if that might help.
