You need to edit it as super user (root) instead of as user. In a terminal type: sudo beaver /boot/grub/menu.lst Posted by mickster on Feb. 28 2007,15:25
I tried opening it as a super user/root but i still can't change anything in it.Does anyone know any other way to change /boot/grub/must.lst?? Posted by roberts on Feb. 28 2007,15:37
That would be for a traditional hard drive installation.Frugal or Pendrive depends on how booted. Without 'toram' it is /cdrom/boot/grub/menu.lst Booted with toram, first mount the device, hdaX or sdaX and then edit /mnt/hdaX/boot/grub/menu.lst Posted by lucky13 on Feb. 28 2007,15:47
Frugal or hard drive install? Note which section of the forum this is. Is your system set up as read-only?
Yes, the way I told you should work on a hard drive install unless you (a) have a frugal install, (b) didn't properly unmount your / partition the last time you shut down, or (c ) have otherwise mounted your DSL partition as read-only. Had (b) occurred, you would've been prompted at your next boot to remount the system as read-write and reboot. |
