Hi, I'm getting the error 'ACPI is disabled because BIOS is from 00 and is too old.  You can enable it with acpi=force.'  How do I do this?  Thank you.

Put "acpi=force" as a boot code in syslinux.cfg

In which directory can you find the syslinux.cfg file;  I have tried searching for it with the 'find' command but with no success; thank you.

The answer depends on how you are booting DSL.
If you have a boot prompt then

boot: dsl acpi=force

If no boot prompt then how are booting and how did you install?
What boot loader did you choose? It could be lilo.conf or menu.lst, or syslinux.cfg or isolinux.cfg or pendrive.bat, etc...

I'm using the Grub boot loader; you can enter a command line from the Grub menu, but I would prefer to be able to put this setting in a config file.

You'll have to add that in menu.lst
(probably /cdrom/boot/grub/menu.lst)

Hi, what command do you use to change the file permissions on the menu.lst file? Thanks.

How to change permissions depends on how you specifically want to change them. You shouldn't change the permissions of menu.lst or anything else in /boot. Edit it as root.

Hi; the file is read-only; will I need to change this bit to edit it, and if so, how?  What command do I use to edit the file as root?  Thank you.

Depends on which editor you like.
Example:

Right-click beaver icon and select super-user
Then navigate to /cdrom/boot/grub/menu.lst

NOTE: The location of menu.lst depends on installation type and if booted toram
