USB boot via floppy to HD installForum: HD Install Topic: USB boot via floppy to HD install started by: hanju Posted by hanju on April 10 2007,04:24
Hi guys,I have a JVC MPXP7210, on which i want to install dsl. Due to the laptops lack o\f cd drive I opted for the usb via floppy boot approach. However when in dsl after a successful boot cfdisk and fdisk both give "FATAL ERROR: cannot open disk drive" when i attempt to partition the hard drive. Also the hard drive is recognised as hdb instead of hda. Any ideas? The Hard drive installs (debian and frugal) don't work. Would appreciate your help Paolo Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on April 10 2007,05:57
Make sure you have root privileges...i.e. sudo cfdisk /dev/hdb Posted by hanju on April 10 2007,08:13
Thanks,Cant believe i did't get that! But it seems thats not the end of my problems, both GRUB and LILO are having trouble. What to do what to do? Posted by hanju on April 10 2007,08:15
And something new, GRUB HARD DISK ERROR now comes up when trying to boot from hard drive. Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on April 10 2007,17:58
Did you reboot after partitioning?

Searching around, 1 site: < http://neon.polkaroo.net/~mhoye/blarg/archives/003382.php >Some options: - update BIOS - use a different version of grub (see mydsl > testing) - use lilo - redo your partitioning, restart, re-install dsl - disable other system controllers via BIOS (ie sata/scsi) |
