-Erased all partitions, made one new one, and formatted it.
-Booted from the CD (checksum checked)
-Checked that it was indeed 'hda1' using cfdisk (didn't change anything)
-Chose the standard install from the menu (not frugal)
-To hda1
-Chose grub

!!! On restart, bios screen then 'missing operating system'

-Repeated with lilo

!!! Same problem

This is with dsl-n (but I didn't know that the dsl-n forums required a whole new account, and it'll take a week before the one I just signed up for is activated).

So, can anyone help?

I am new at this Linux stuff.

The DSL-N forum is closed and anything new is now posted in the DSL-N section of the DSL forum.

I don't know if you had a look at the wiki or not, but usually I think you would make 3 partitions for a hd install - swap, operating system and data.

That was caused by boot loader not getting installed. Try installing it manually
(good directions < here >, though for my grub-splash extension, grub intructions work on 0.91 too)

Thank you, I've got it working now. Although there are other problems...
