Install on HDD, run from ramdiskForum: HD Install Topic: Install on HDD, run from ramdisk started by: ns-c0de Posted by ns-c0de on Oct. 21 2007,08:19
Ok, here's what I want to do. I'm making myself a nice home router. It's a 500 MHz K6-2 with 128 mb of ram and a very noisy 1 gig hdd. I would like to somehow make dsl boot from hdd (it's already installed there), make a ramdisk, have dsl copy itself there and continue running from a ramdisk happily ever after ![]() Any ideas about how this could be done? (and don't anyone say compact flashes... they're damn hard to get here. usb is also not an option, my asus TX-97e motherboard can't boot from usb) Posted by curaga on Oct. 21 2007,12:15
Do a frugal install, add "toram" to the boot codes. And you're running in ram ![]() For a debian-type hd install, you would need to make something up yourself to do that.. |
