I think I like the way openbox is designed as far as opening folders, volumes, etc.
Has anyone ever installed openbox on DSL?
I'm installing DSL on a pc for a cousin and  I think she would be more comfortable using openbox.

I guess you are speaking of using openbox without the gnome or kde desktops - even then, it looks like it requires glib-2, xml-2, etc, and so will probably be large and heavy on resources.

..but no, I didn't try.

Openbox is a pig and it doesn't open folders, etc. That's the job of a file manager, not a window manager. I don't know with which distro you've run into openbox, but you're most likely using rox as a file manager in it. MyDSL has a GTK1 version of rox and it works quite well with jwm.

Comparisons:

SIZE
openbox 3312
jwm 416

RSS
openbox 7780
jwm 2656

VSIZE
openbox 11676
jwm 4736

LIBRARIES
openbox 31
jwm 19

FWIW, rox is sizable compared to dfm in terms of RAM use, disk space, cpu cycles, and inodes (especially if you use rox as it was designed with AppDirs).
