Black screen at boot

Hello guys

I try to install DSL 4.3 on a partition of my HD, with the LiveCD. Everything begins right, but when the X server is to be launched (juste after Xauth..), it turns to a black screen, frozen.

If I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 I can see the last messages :
modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module fb0
XIO: fatal XIO error 104

Strangely, if I try to launch it with QEMU it runs well.

Any idea of what boot command I should type?

At the first boot prompt press F2 or F3 to see other video boot options. Perhaps you should try...

boot: dsl vga=normal

boot: fb800x600

yes, but I don't know which command to add

I've tried lots but in vain. For example to run Ubuntu I have to bring -noapic  but it seems to be different here.

vga=normal or anything concerning the resolution has no effect.

All apologies I didn't report all the error lines . In fact it is : (just after Xauth...)

apm: overriden by ACPI
insmod : /lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/apm.o : init-module : No such device
insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/apm.o insmod char-major-10-134 failed
insmod: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by
incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ
parameters. You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module fb0
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (COnnection reset by peer) on xserver ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining

why this conflict between linux kernel and my hardware? :'(

Try "dsl noacpi noapic acpi=off" on boot

The only effect is that there isn't the lines "modprobe" anymore

Try boot: failsafe

Also post your hardware specs and maybe someone else has the same specs and has solved this and therefore can help.

Thanks, but I've already tried this one...

Well, it boots if I specify "dsl xsetup" and "xfbdev" instead of "xvesa" at the menu. (I was sure I had tried it !)
So I began to believe...!
But, here I need your explanations : can't I have it installed on my HD working the SaME?

I tried Tools/Install  and  Tools/Frugal install but it doesn't work !

First after the grub, it freezes at "Uncompressing Linux... ok, booting the kernel."  => I can pass it adding "acpi=off"
But then the X really don't want. I am thrown to a shell and even if I type xsetup.sh and choose xfbdev, I got this :

$ startx
modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module fb0
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (COnnection reset by peer) on xserver ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining

It's all the more frustrating that the live CD works!

Try booting "fb800x600", not "dsl fb800x600"

pseudomino: Please do like Robert said and post your hardware specs.

yes you're right :

AMD Athlon XP 2100+
Graphic card : Winfast A280 (nvidia GEForce4)
Motherboard : ASUS A7V8X
RAM : 512 MB

(I'll have a fast DSL)

to Chaostic :
With fb800x600 it fails too, unless I choose xfbdev. So I see no advantage since I can have the same in ... 1024x768 by default it seems
