It is DANGEROUS to try to use DSL's "LILO" bootmanager to dual-boot with.
Unless your a real sharp person with lilo and restoring the MBR in XP, I suggest
using your CD or floppy to boot DSL..

The HDInstall on my system DOES dual-boot by default with XP,
Others have NOT been so lucky, and fixing it is a pain..
It's rough business when your reboot, and your screen fills with 9's or shows "LI"  and freezes.

So, YES, it works, and usually works fine... but it's AT YOUR OWN RISK ..

The frugal-install DOES NOT DUAL BOOT - DO NOT ATTEMPT.

Are you running DSL with the "toram" option?
If you have enough ram to run XP, then "toram" should work fine for you.
It is faster for most apps than running from a HDInstall, and safer..
Use the HD space for extensions and mp3's !

I have used lilo in the MBR many times with no problems. If you need to start over, just use a DOS boot floppy and fdisk /mbr. Your MBR will be restored to a bootable DOS MBR. Then do what ever is necessary to resume.

I installed Linux to a second partition on a hard drive that already had Win98 installed on "C" drive. First, I defragmented "C". Then I used Partition Magic to create a partition for Linux and a partition for Linux swap, hda2 and hda3. Then I followed the Linux installation procedures and installed lilo to the MBR of hda.

When I boot the computer, I get a menu that gives me a choice of Windows or Linux. And as a further chapter to the story, I also have WinXP on hard drive "D", that was a dual boot setup with Win98 before the Linux installation. Now when I select Windows from the lilo boot menu, I get the WinXP boot menu and can select either Win98 or WinXP.

The Linux I installed was not DSL, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work with DSL just the same.

It is posible to do a "dual boot" on ONE window9x parition.

1. do a poor man's install in the C: drive
2. run the grub-install (can be found on KNOPPIX)
"dont try this at home" its is only for the ones that understand what grub does en how it works

then you have windows on C: AND DSL on the same.
if you put more sections in grubs menu.lst you have multiple boots

in each section for the DSL boot you can give different boot-options (i.e. knoppix_dir= enables you to have more DSL versions on the same drive)
than if you had an option like mydsl_dir= you could load a different set of extentions for each boot
