install before or after /edit/lilo.confForum: HD Install Topic: install before or after /edit/lilo.conf started by: dhatcher2@neo.rr.com Posted by dhatcher2@neo.rr.com on Oct. 18 2004,21:16
OK, I made a 128 MB swap and a 1500MB Linux main. I did the XTerm sudo su mkswap and swapon commands. Do I install to HD before I edit LILO or must I edit LILO before (I am dual booting with Windows 98SE and obviously want a choice on bootup. Also, I read about mount points, is this part of dual booting and if so exactly how do I make a mount point and edit lilo? I went LILO edit and at the bottom under other OS I see: # If you have another OS on this machine to boot, you can uncomment the # following lines, changing the device name on the `other' line to # where your other OS' partition is. # # other=/dev/hda4 # label=HURD # restricted # alias=3 Can someone please tell me exactly what to do here so I don't hose up my box? I am clueless (obviously). Posted by AwPhuch on Oct. 18 2004,21:50
you can't run "lilo" from the live cd, you have to run
editing /etc/lilo.conf file wont do any good...besides when you do a hd install if you have an active swap it turns it off!!! Then upon reboot it will autodetect your swapfile/partition So just do the fullbore HD install, it will ask at the end to you want to install lilo...hit yes, install, reboot and POW!!!!! Thanks a lot, that went way smoother this time. I appreciate your help. I am sure that I will have more questions later. Thanks again.
