When I first installed DSL on my hard drive, everything was working fine. I installed the non-uci Firefox extension with MyDSL Click and Load.

However, later on, my Firefox was unable to start up. The files are there in opt/firefox, but it doesn't seem to start up... the CPU usage seems to go up to 50%, and then it comes back down to 0% without loading Firefox.

Now, when I opened the MyDSL Click and Load, under "Programs Available", all the programs disappeared.

There are two lines of  /icons/unknown.gif" ALT="[ ]"> with the "Get it" button beside it, but that's all. :(

plastic-

I'm having this same problem. Maybe we can figure it out. Where do you save your MyDSL stuff? A seperate partition? Is it listed under the MyDSL menu as an optional extension? Did you add anything to filetool.lst?

I used the Click and Load GUI, so the MyDSL stuff was saved in /opt. The only thing I added to filetool.lst was /opt/firefox, I think.

Now when I go to MyDSL Click and Load GUI, it says, "Sorry, but I can't connect to the repository right now."

I do it this way:

Me the root opens xterminal -> sudo emelfm -> copy .dsl-files into /opt -> mark the .dsl -> click "Mydsl-button".

This topic is covered in the DSL FAQ. The DSL FAQ is maintained by fellow DSL users and we add stuff all the time so it is usualy a good idea to look their before asking questions. The UCI's are compressed images. They are not installed like the other MyDSL files, they are mounted. This means that you have to remount them everytime they are unmounted to use them again (like when you reboot). You might consider putting in mydsl-load /tmp/firefox.uci (or where ever you keep your mydsl downloads) in .xinitrc (which is in your home directory).

Thanks,

Is the FAQ you're referring to < this one >? I don't see any information on this problem...

As I mentioned in the first post, I had problems with the non-uci files (that is, the *.dsl ones, etc.) after a while.

Sorry for the extreme newbiness, but do I have to be root to mount the files? (It says "mount: can't find /tmp in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab". Why doesn't it let me do it from the current directory?)

I tried adding "mydsl-load /tmp/firefox.uci" in .xinitrc, but it doesn't work. I added it after "fluxbox" (am I supposed to have an & after each line? When I added the & after "fluxbox", it gave me an error, so I took it out.).

Thanks. :)

No, I am not talking about that FAQ. The FAQ I am talking about is actually on these forums.

Which MyDSL files?

No, you don't have to be root to mount (usualy). What are you trying to mount? LiveCD or HD Install? From the error it looks like your trying to mount it using mount (and the /tmp directory at that). You use the mydsl-load command to mount the .ico file.

It must be before fluxbox! Eck! fluxbox must be alone on the very last line.

Hope this helps,

When I tried to mydsl-load firefox.uci with emelfm, it says:

/dev/cloop8: No such device
----end-of-output----

Does firefox work regardless of the error?

How many times have you loaded up *.uci extensions?

Depending on your version of DSL, you can only have 4 or 8 cloop devices in use at the same time.  Since the DSL itself is run from 1 cloop device, that leaves you with 3 or 7 left to play with.

Either that or you are thinking that you disconnected your last *.uci connection even though in reality it is still connected and you have run out of available cloop devices.

No, I can't load Firefox.

I have probably loaded many *.uci extensions before, but not on the same reboot...

What are cloop devices, and how do I disconnect them? How do I check how many cloop devices I have?

Thanks. :)

Hmm.. if you have not loaded any *.uci since reboot then I do not understand the reason for the error message.

You can see what cloop devices are in use by typing:

mount

from an xterminal window.

Cloop devices are read-only compressed filesystems.

A Microsoft somewhat equivalent might be a compressed folder.

The uci's are compressed filesystems that contain the program that you are trying to run.  In order to use the program, your *.uci must be "mounted" to a cloop device.

There are limited number of cloop devices that exist in a typical linux system, so a common reason for such an error message is that all of the other cloop devices (cloop through cloop7) are already in use.

When I type in

% mount

it says:

/dev/hda2 on / type ext2 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
/proc on /proc type proc (rw)
/dev/pts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw)
/proc/bus/usb on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw,devmode=0666)
