What was your master distro?

With win98 you would just boot and type fdisk /mbr in a command prompt...if you have 2000 or xp its going to be a little bit harder

You have to overwrite the linux lilo mbr for it to now boot straight to your windows...If you remove your linux diretory without 1st fixing the windows mbr you wont be able to boot at all!!

All linux can start with lilo..you just have to know the syntax...
Are you wanting to put a new copy of DSL on it or put another distro there?

Do they have a hd install option?

If so then erase the partition the DSL is on, and install it there...it should overwrite the DSL mbr

somerville32 play nice man...dont need that attitude bud

Did that other version ask where to put its bootloader?
it has to overwrite the mbr or bootloader of DSL...which is the mbr of /dev/hda1

i think the easiest thing is to persuade them that dsl is the best and that they should keep it. if they still want to remove then i will help.
grudgingly.

don't know if it'll help any or anything but i once removed lilo (from my comp that uses windows xp) after a debian uninstall using a win98 boot disk and using fdisk /mbr   hope that helps.(if you ever see it)

Heh, leave it to the M$ dorks to leave this interesting bit of info out of the Win98 boot disk help file. Thanks Oxin, this helped me out, as I had no clue how to get Lilo outta the boot sequence. I had installed DSL on hda1, then later wanted to try other Live CD distros, but the lilo menu wouldn't let anything else boot. I've learned my lesson, no more HD installs, at least for now. The Live CD is good enough
