I am VERY new to Linux, so please bear with me

I understand how the hard drive is partitioned. But what I am not understanding is how many partitions I need for DSL to run properly, what types, etc... and do those partitions need to be formated after they are created.

Thanks,

If you have enough ram 32Megs+ you only need one partition...using cfdisk just make a type 82 (LINUX) partition and install to that...
If you need swap space then make a small 32-64Meg type 83 partition

I think linux is type 83
swap is type 82 but I am not sure.
