HD install with Norton commanderForum: HD Install Topic: HD install with Norton commander started by: Karon Posted by Karon on Nov. 24 2004,18:59
Hi out there! This is my first attempt to write to a forum. I'm new to Linux, but have tried to install Mandrake and Debian before. It always failed due to some for me un-understandeble reason...But now I have seen the light! DSL! I have installed it as an experiment on an old pentium 200, and it worked fine. Now I'm trying to install it on an old lt, Texas instruments Travelmate 4000E. It has no cd, so I read about the floppy install, and thought I could transfer the files via Norton commander and a parallell cable instead. It worked, but now I'm stuck on the Boot-disk. 1. Where can I find the file Boot.img??? It is not on the Iso, or? 2. Does it matter that this old lt has Fat 16? 3. When it says Fdisk, is it Linux or Dos? 4. Is it just the Knoppix dir that I need, and should I keep the structure? Tried to make a boot-floppy on the working DSL-computer, but got the message: no such file... Hope you can help me, because I really like DSL, and I have wanted for years to join the Linux folks out there. Friendly regards from Sweden Posted by roberts on Nov. 25 2004,01:44
The boot floppy image is in the same download directory as the iso here:< http://www.ibiblio.org/pub....0.8.img > Posted by skaos on Nov. 25 2004,10:02
2. Probably it is ok.3. If you want to make linux partitions, you need the Linux version of fdisk (the dos version cannot make linux partitions). 4. The knoppix directory with the knoppix file (I think). |
