I'm putting together a computer for the car which is primarily an Mp3 player, DVD player, and picture viewer. Later I plan to add GPS. I'm using a VIA EPIA mobo which has built in LAN, video, and sound, all of which installed perfectly. I would like to have it boot up using a login for the car which is suzumi, and then autostart xmms on the primary desktop. I'm new to DSL and have not played with linux since before these nice install scripts. I'm guessing it's a matter of knowing which files to edit and the locations of the apps I want to start? Is xmms the app of choice for Mp3? Xine for DVDs? Thanks for your time, Xmms question in next post.

As you progress in this project, please post your successfuly progress.  Quite a few others here would probably be interested in the final "interface" you come up with.  I've thought of trying to outfit something under Linux with an LCD overlaid with a 3M touchscreen.

Also, I haven't found any decent GPS progs under Linux that will do street routing as almost all the GNU stuff out there doesn't seem to support vector routing (I think the real reason is that all the steet vector data is proprietary and you have to buy it. ;)

Well Max, I plan on being here for a while so yes you will be able to track my progress. I also hang out at the carputer forems but I have chosen this distro so I'll be more productive posting here I think. I chose not to go with the touch screen because of the cost. I actually bought a pair of 7" LCDs on ebay. They were installed in chevy head rests which is probably why I got them for $120. I ripped em out and they tested good. You are correct about the lack of vector gps apps in linux, but that is the first reason that I have heard for it. Thanks
