Hi, I'm a NOOB to linux and want to get my old PC to run DSL. no CD rom drive so I have successfully created 2 FAT partitions -1- 60MEG -2- 440 MEG. I have transfered the contents of the CD to the 60meg partition and made it the primary partition. HOWEVER I could not find any trace of the boot.img file on the CD. could someone please point me to a place where I can get this file? I found a copy of RAWWRITEWIN on thwe net so I have that. Also, I think the Fat partitions are FAT16 is this a problem??? Posted by nmo on Jan. 04 2005,08:50
I suppose I should say that I'm using DSL version0.9.1 and that it beet's fine on another machine with a cd drive. also I used a laplink cable (remember them) to transfer the data to the NOCD computer.

ok so I found a boot.img file from one of the download mirrors called boot 0.8.0 .img. however it get's to the start up screen where you type in dsl etc and the gives error boot failed please change disks and press a key to continue.any thoughts??? Posted by roberts on Jan. 04 2005,17:13
If you used laplink and then set it up as a poormans install, i.e.,A knoppix directory at the root of the C drive, and it contains the single file knoppix. You should find those on the compuer that can run dsl. Then copy to the nocd computer. It should look like this after the copy. C:\knoppix\knoppix Then boot from the boot-0.8.0.img floppy that you made. Posted by nmo on Jan. 05 2005,06:22
