First lemme say...this is the smoothest POSIX distro I have EVER used...I love the fact that a functioning OS can be smashed to 50MB...however
- cannot get my touchpad to work
- any version above 7.2 doesn't work with my touchpad
- MyDSL has NO apps to install ... only a 'exit click and run' button.
I have a r3000z lappy that has 2800+ AMD, 512MB ram, 60HD, nVidia 440, and other goodies including a Broadcom WIFI...
I have gotten the WIFI to load in Knoppix via Ndiswrapper...only once.

When I boot with anything above 7.2, my mouse (USB Optical) doesn't work.  I can only boot with failsafe above 7.2.

I am using 7.2 to at least have a mouse.  MyDSL has nothing in it to install...I have tried dlding a tarball and placing it in the /tmp dir...and then useing emelfm to install via the 'mydsl' button does nothing.

The only fully functional distro I have used on this lappy is Knoppix 3.4 (3.6 won't load either).

So lay it on me...is it in the BIOS?  Am I missing something?  How do you you get dsls in the MyDSL window and why does my USB mouse occasionally work ?

Also, I would like to know why the sky is blue and where babies come from...:)

oh yeah...have a buddy with an HP lappy (mine's compaq) and it does the same thing...
I believe my issue is due to the Kernel that it loads...I have recompiled the oldest version i have and it did nothing...
can someone post how to update DSL to the latest kernel without giving up my first born and left testicle?

BTW...it is an HD installation...

Broadcom WIFI >>> This is the netcard equivelent of a winmodem. It's software driven. See if you can get it working with ndiswrapper, but I don't hold out a lot of hope. I have an Airlink+ card with the same chipset, and can't coax it into working for my life. Grab a real netcard, something with a Prism or Orinco chipset, you'll be happier with it's performance, anyway.

In order to use the MyDSL gui, you have to have a working connection. And the packages aren't normal tarballs, they are fully compiled and functional apps that have simply been compressed using tar and gzip.

PLEASE do not try to install a tarball with MyDSL. It will break a lot of stuff.

The touchpad can be made to work by installing the Xfree86.dsl from the testing area.

The usb mouse can be made to work by typing "dsl xsetup" at the boot prompt, or running xsetup.sh in an hdinstall. Select your preferred X server and the USB mouse option.

Recompiling the kernel?

Short answer is you can't.

Long answer is, it's a custom kernel from Knoppix 3.4. The patches that were applied were available on the Knoppix site before 3.4 became a depreciated version. Now, you cannot even download the 3.4 iso, much less the patches needed to take the 2.4.26 kernel to be the 2.4.26-knoppix kernel.

Gotcha...but
I have a working connection to the internet...I typed the above message from that laptop.  I was hardwired.  It still showed no apps to install under MyDSL.

No more apt-getting I supose.  I will avoid that at all costs.

The USB thing doesn't work.  On 7.2, when it is init, it shows the psaux as Kensington USB mouse.   On 9.2 it shows Generic PS/2 mouse.  The xsetup script doesn't help...

Maybe this is more of a desktop OS?

thx for the help in advance
