Hi

I have installed da 9.3 version and i have trouble with keyboardlayout. Even after switching to de-latin1-nodeadkeys i have still a y when pressing a z. The keymap doesn't change.

I need german keyboard layout. I installed DSL on Harddisk.

Please help.

Hello , yes I had that problem too , many Linux Distros running from CD , but only Knoppix is supporting german language. DSL is based on Knoppix , but as far as I know they removed all foreign languages in the applications to save diskspace.
Only way I found is to start at the bootprompt with "boot : dsl lang=de" , and in pathetic writer I can  even see the ÄÜÖ s. They dont show up in Syllable . but when the receiver opens the mail boom there they are. It is a elementary question
about Linux getting more userfriendly or get lost in space , isnt it ?
Anyway I found out that SUSE Linux has avery good support of german language,
if you are able to install it I think it is the best choice , and it is still free available ;o)

you have to press ctrl+alt+backspace to exit from fluxbox
then type
loadkeys de
startx
that works :) . sorry I do not know how to make it permanent,
I tried to add it to the bootlocal.sh, but it does not worked. :(

You must edit the /etc/lilo.conf. In the section "append", you must instert the String "lang=de"

Example
Code Sample
append=".... lang=de"

to change de default keymap in a hd installation open the following file /opt/bootlocal.sh with the command sudo nano /opt/bootlocal.sh and change the line "loadkeys de" to "loadkeys de-latin1-nodeadkeys". save it and reboot and the german umlaute like öäü will work in the future.

the command at boot prompt "lang=de" will change the keymap to de, but de doesn't support the german umlaute.
