Hi,

How do I boot from the HD with the Windows (XP Home) - Bootmanager?
What do I have to write in the boot.ini file?
I won't use a linux bootmanager like lilo or grub.
Or must i use something like that?

thanks a lot for answers...

It's generally thought to be best to boot with a linux bootloader, but it's not necessary.
I've never done this, but you could try the "Using The Windows Bootloader" section on this page
< http://www.linuxforums.org/tutorials/1/tutorial-3573.html >

You could also boot from the DSL CD with the "dsl fromhd=/dev/hd??" option

Thx for the answer...
So, i visited the link, and there on that site say's, that a bootmanager like grub oder lilo is required.
so i 've installed lilo with (in the XTerminal): 'sudo mkliloboot'.
than i 've restarted, and the lilo bootmanager was not showed. (ago, it work's, i dont know now anything...).

I read every time, i have to put in in root 'dd if=/dev/hda2 of=/mnt/sda1/bootsect.tux bs=512 count=1'.
So i have written in xterminal: 'sudo 'dd if=/dev/hda2 of=/mnt/sda1/bootsect.tux bs=512 count=1'.
then it says:
'1+0 records in
1+0 records out'.
and, then i opened emelfm (oh, yes, i 've mounted the usb stick before), and there is the file, 'bootsect.tux'. when i chose 'view file', there i see a file with nothing in it.

i think i make the lilo-installation false. but how i do it right?
ant how i create so an 'bootsect.tux'-file, wich works ???.

please, help me, i'm a totally newbie in linux :( .
and sorry for my bad english, i haven't learned very much in school, becouse i go only in the 3 gymnasim class (i'm only 12 years :;):).

I think that you need to install LILO or grub at the beginning of the linux partition, instead of at the boot sector of the hard drive.

In other words, something like:

/dev/hda1

instead of /dev/hda

hi,

now i have found out, that, when i make
mkliloboot
, that that install lilo in /dev/hda, so i made a bootsectimage (or so...), and it worked.
but, the next day, it worked again not...all were away, the partition table was destroyed, but in the chat, hoed gave me a tip, i should try the inside security cd, and i make the cd, and want to start the notebook...and, then i see the winXP bootmanager, and all worked sucefully again  :)  :)  :)

now i can boot winXP or DSL (on HD)  :)  :)
